  Soundcards:

It is important to ensure that you can hear sound on your system. To test this, click on the icon once for the volume slider control to pop up. When clicking on the slider control a sound should come from your speakers. If not there is a problem with your soundcard hardware.

  Videocard (VGA card):

Video on older computers can use a large amount of system resources and can appear slow and jerky. Ensure that your video card is set to High Colour 16bit or higher by right clicking anywhere on your Desktop/Properties/Settings. If your video card cannot be set to 16bit colour, try 256 colours. You will find it is not the best for video files and you should consider upgrading your video card.

  Drivers :

The third and possibly most important advice for audio & video on a computer is to make sure that the latest drivers have been installed for the video and sound cards. Updating a driver can cure 90% of PC related problems. Sites such as www.Driverzone.com can assist in identifying video & sound cards and provide advice as to which drivers to install.
